Saturday 20th May 2017.
On Saturday 20 May 2017 at 11.45am a Special meeting of Carrrickfergus Council of Kt Masons No 56 was held under its
warrant in Enniskillen Masonic Hall.
The meeting was opened by the Ex Chief Stephen Arthur, Senior Kt Ex Sir Kt Russell
Lindsay and Junior Kt Sir Kt Dr Norman Close. 52 Sir Kts attended the meeting representing
16 councils nos 4,5,8,15, 25, 32, 36, 44, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 71, 77 and 78.
The Sir Kts on tour, including the bus driver Ex Sir Kt Frank Lee Past Chief of Ulster Cameron Council
and the current Ex Chief of Persia Council of Research, were welcomed by the Ex Chief Stephen Richmond and the
scribe VESK Billy Dixon of Erne Council.
Salutes were called to all dignitaries in attendance these included RESK Robert Black, Superintendent
for Ulster-North; RESK Steven Bryans Superintendent for Greater Belfast and his deputy RESK Hugh Johnston;
and past and present officers of Grand Council, RESKs Brian Henderson and John McAdorey; and VESKs Maurice
Henderson and Billy Dixon.
Once the formalities were over, the main business of the meeting was enacted with the degree
of Kt of the East and West being conferred by RESK Roy Whiteside on Sir Kts Samuel Moore and
Darren Wren (Carrickfergus Council) and Sir Kt Alan Munce (Straid Council). The candidates received an exemplary
degree and RESK Whiteside thanked those who assisted with the preparation and conferring Sir Kts Mark Trueick
and ESKs Michael Alexander and John Nesbitt; and VESK Bill Brown role as Chaplain.
The meeting was a unique occasion as RESK Steven Bryans presented Sir Kt Jim Kerr (Comber Council)
with his Kt Mason certificate, which he had been unable to receive at his own council meeting due to work commitments.
A buffet lunch was enjoyed by all following the meeting in the function room in the Hall enabling old friendships
to be renewed and new ones to be forged amongst all the Sir Kts from the different Councils in the provinces
of Ulster North and Greater Belfast.
A very enjoyable day out and something Carrickfergus Council hopes to build upon in the future.
